This is because your BlackBerry is running OS 3.7, QuickIM requires OS 3.8 or 4.0

You may want to upgrade the OS of your BlackBerry. See thr following post:

Hi, thanks for that, I have upgraded my device to version 4 and have now installed the software Surprised)

I chose all the conneciton defaults but get the following error message when I try to connect:

----------------------------------------
Error while connecting
Dispatch server error
Address= messenger.hotmail.com, Port=-1
Details: Create socket: could not open tunnel - failed
----------------------------------------

I have checked my device and I can connect to my GPRS service and have successfully got onto websites etc. My mail is also working fine so the GPRS must be OK.

Thanks, Clint.

Unfortunately get email working is not always sufficient!

BlackBerry has a special network layer. eMail is something very specific, getting eMail working is not sufficient. All BlackBerry devices should have eMail working, and sometime Web browsing working. But to access other internet resources, you need to have unrestricted internet access. This is done usually in 2 ways, using corporate BES/MDS or use mobile operator's internet gateway. To use the internet gateway, you need to setup the TCP settings of your BlackBerry. You should read the following thread
http://www.quickim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60

Tips: To configure TCP settings, you should have a program called "Options" on your BlackBerry, launch it. Then you'll see a TCP entry in the list, open it, you can then enter APN, username, password. Save the configuration.

If it still doesn't work for you, you should try to reboot the BlackBerry once (remove battery for example), we noticed this helps sometime. Also you may want try another APN setting, there are multiple APN settings depending on your data options, you should contact your mobile operator for the exact value.

For the TCP settings for O2 and BlackBerry

see the following 2 other threads,

http://www.quickim.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

By the way, which OS upgrade did you use? It would be nice to let other O2 users know which OS upgrade works. Thanks.

I used the following file from your site:

7700M_PBr4[1].0.0_rel224_PL1.6.1.49_A4.0.0.188-Vodafone.exe

Although it installed OK it has now branded my device with Vodafone colours etc but it all seems to be working fine though and has connected to all the O2 settings etc.
