On motorola phones, hit the red phone button while running QuickIM, it should display a menu with an option called "Run in background", select it and QuickIM will run in background mode. Unfortunately while running in background mode, all multimedia services will be blocked by the phone.

Example to create a new WAP GPRS to Orange in France:

the following remark is valid for all users: in the "Service Type 1" field, use HTTP instead of WAP, otherwise your GPRS won't be compatible with the messenger.

From the standby screen press the Menu key.
Scroll to and select Settings.
Scroll to and select Web Access.
Scroll to and select Web Sessions.
press the Menu key.
Scroll to and select New.

Validate the following:
Name: Orange
Homepage: http://www.google.com
Service Type 1: HTTP
Gateway IP: 192.168.010.100
Port 1: 9201
Domain 1: Blank
Service Type 2: WAP
Gateway IP 2: 000.000.000.000
Port 2: 9201
Domain 2: blank
DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
Timeout: 15 minutes.
CSD No 1: +33674501100
Username: orange
Password orange
Speed (Bps) 1: 9600
Linetype 1: ISDN
CSD 2: Blank
Username 2: Blank
Password 2: Blank
Speed (Bps): 9600
Line Type 2: ISDN
GPRS APN: Proxy
Username: orange
Password: orange
Click Done.

Once the browser settings are configured, please select it as the active web session:

From the standby screen, press the Menu key.
Scroll to and select Settings.
Scroll to and select Web Access.
Scroll to and select Web Sessions.
Scroll to "Orange", then press the Menu key.

Select Set Default.

On Motorola L6 phones (probably the same as on L7, L9), when you receive a message, and the phone vibrates, the screen may turn black and no key responds except the hangup key. Hit on hangup key, and select "Resume" to come back to QuickIM.
You can also disable the vibration alert to avoid this.

We are investigation this issue.

The Motorola L6 will give you the error "Proxy Activate Failed" if you haven't configured your web sessions correctly. I spent hours figuring this out, but configuring a new web session and setting that as the default is not good enough to get j2me MIDlets working with GPRS (quickIM would not work for me).

You need to specifically edit the web session called "Java Session" (should already exist), and enter all your relevant GPRS settings in there, to get things working. Seems your j2me MIDlets automatically use connection settings from "Java Session" rather than what you set as default.
